Project Summary

EAST LAKEVIEW DRIVE –THE CITY HAS OBTAINED $1,841,800 IN GRANT FUNDING THROUGH MN DNR STATE PARK ROAD ACCOUNT, MNDOT LOCAL ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM, AND IRRRB FOR THE NEW ROAD IMPROVEMENTS LEADING TO BLACK BEACH. FINAL ENGINEERING IS NEARING COMPLETION WITH REVIEW BY LAKE COUNTY AND THE STATE OF MN. BIDDING IS EXPECTED TO BE DONE SOON AND CONSTRUCTION SHOULD START IN THE SUMMER OF 2023.

BLACK BEACH PARK IMPROVEMENTS-THE CITY HAS RECEIVED ADDITIONAL LEASED LAND FROM NORTHSHORE MINING TO EXPAND PARKING, TRAILS, AND PRIMITIVE CAMPING SITES AT BLACK BEACH PARK. THIS IS BEING DESIGNED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE EAST LAKEVIEW DRIVE ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. ONCE THE DESIGNS ARE SATISFACTORY TO THE STATE, THEY WILL BE PROVIDED TO NORTHSHORE MINING FOR THEIR FINAL APPROVAL. THE MAJORITY OF THE FUNDING FOR EAST LAKEVIEW DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS HAS BEEN SECURED, BUT THE FUNDING FOR THE PARKING LOTS AND TRAILS ARE BEING SOUGHT.

October 30, 2023 – The work on the improvements to East Lakeview Drive are underway. We will occasionally post photo updates to this website. These photos are courtesy of Phil Huston and were taken 10/23& 28/23. The NEWEST photo is from November 2

Update as of December 1, 2023

Here is a picture taken on December 1st. The construction is halted for the season.

Update as of November 6, 2023

Contractors have installed the Silt fence on the entire project area.  The clearing and grubbing is complete along the existing segment. Pond excavation is approximately 50% complete.  MN Power poles have been relocated. A preconstruction meeting was held May 13th. The activities anticipated for  the week of November 6th include blasting for rock excavation near the south end of the project and storm sewer installation will begin.
