Water Emergency Has Now Lifted

UPDATE: 7:00pm – The water emergency has now lifted. You can resume water usage. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

UPDATE: 4:00pm 8/20/24 – The new pipe has been installed and staff are slowing putting water through the lines and pressurizing the system.  This is a slow process due to the high-pressured system we have in Silver Bay.  The goal is to not have additional breaks, so this process can take 1-2 hours before the City can start processing water again (pending no additional issues).  Please continue to avoid using water so that we are not competing against filling the water towers.  Thank you again for your patience and cooperation.  We apologize for the inconvenience.  Keep watching for updates on the City website.  We will notify you as soon as the system is back in operation.

UPDATE: 3:00pm 8/20/24– The broken pipe has been removed and a new pipe is being installed. It should be noted that the “do not use water” notification is NOT a “do not drink” notification. The City is just asking you to reduce your usage of water to avoid further issues if the tank and water distribution gets too low. Thank you again for your cooperation during this temporary emergency notice.

UPDATE: 12:45pm 8/20/24 – Bolts have been replaced and a cracked pipe in the same area is currently being worked on.  Staff are working hard to get the system operating and we will continue providing updates as information becomes available.  Please note that the City is not out of water; however, this notice is the City being proactive to avoid dry tanks and lines so that once repairs are complete the system can be turned back on for immediate use.  Residents may notice fire hydrants being opened, which is for the flushing of the water main and to minimize potential future breaks due to the air in the system.  Continue to watch for updates on the City website. Thank you for your cooperation during this temporary emergency notice.

Original Post

The City of Silver Bay has experienced a significant break in our high-pressure water main. This is limiting our ability to pump water which is impacting our water tower reserves. We are asking that ALL residents and businesses stop using water effective immediately, and until further notice. City Staff are working hard to get the repairs completed. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. Please watch the City of Silver Bay website at www.silverbay.com for updates.
